We are in possession of a 1965 penny. The color is not copper and it is very shiny. If you notice in the picture the front edge of the coin is missing. Also on the back, the bottom of the steps look to be pushed in. The coin only weighs 2.21grams and it is exactly 3/4 of an inch in diameter. Is it real?

If it were steel it would be magnetic, what does the edge look like?

I used a refrigerator magnet and it is not magnetic. The edge is off centered and the words "In God We Trust" are cut off. There is no copper coming through around the edge.

I'm unsure whether this coin has been altered or it may have actually been struck on a foreign planchet/dime stock.

Interesting. I would think that copper would be visible on the edge if it were struck on a dime planchet, but that's pretty much normal weight for '65 dime...

Can you post a pic of the edge?

to CCF. It does seem like a cent on a dime planchet. Where did you get it?

With it being a 1965 and struck one a clad planchet it should have a copper core. I would like to see pics of the edge.

whatever you do, do NOT touch the coin with bare fingers or attempt to clean it in any way (cleaning a coin will ruin its value). This is an interesting one.

I would also like to see a picture of the edge.

... to the Community!

Looks to be a cent struck on a dime planchet. Not unheard of.

Needs to be third party verified and graded to bring the most money.

Nice coin!

A dime planchet is smaller than a cent.
