So I got this Wheat penny that's flaked and smeared. I've had it confirmed authentic but they couldn't confirm any other info. I'm trying to figure out if its one of a kind, the value possibly, and ideas om what to do with it.

I think cropping and focusing is the key here .

Thats clearest picture I can get. It weighs 3.061g and is even edge width the entire coin. The IN GOD WE is smeared off but completely even and unscratched. The back is a perfectly normal undamaged Wheat penny. The Coin and Gold shop by me said it was flaked but the largest flake they'd ever seen on any Wheat penny. They offered a pretty large amount of money but I wanted more opinions about the coin.

Hmm, someone's flacked, lol (not you ) . Why does it weigh over 3 grams ? Wheaties weigh typically 3 and Memorials 2.50 g.

3.11 +/- .13 is normal. The piece fell of accounting for the weight reduction.Nice find. John1

At that weight it could be struck through a large piece flakes off another coin. The loss of IN GOD WE appears to be a lamination issue on this coin. Just guessing, as a struck through should show some of the design or effect from the flake.

I think it may have been struck through a disintegrating die cap.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

I agree as a lamination issue for the coin. 1. Note the ghost like shape of the affected area and the 2. reverse is not affected. 3. Weight is under. All three confirms it as a lamination issue.

Genuine error, strikethrough. Whatever it was struck through fell away and the coin is of normal weight. It is a significant error because the strikethrough was so large but the value is still not going to be that great, you not going to retire. Dinner for you and a date at a fast food place maybe.
