I am not good at identifying RPM. Is this one, or just deterioration or?

I think I kind of see that you're seeing...an OMM D/S in the one pic you posted. Your coin has a lot of wear and flatting...so it's hard to attribute.
Check VV out varietyvista.com http://varietyvista.com/
scroll down and you'll see Lincoln cents on the left click on LWC RPM's 1909-1958 then click on OMM listings click on the 1944 D/S listing.
