Don't know about a 96 WAM. 92 CLAM P & D are worth more than a bit. I look for all the known WAMs & CLAMs when I roll search. I have found the 98-99-2000 WAMs but no 92 or 92-D CLAM. John1

1996 was reported to have a WAM variety, but I think it was eventually debunked.

Glad this topic came up.I am new at this and want to know if I have lost my mind.I found a clam 1998s proof in a sealed proof set.Sent it off to heritage to be auctioned, received a respond two days ago, they said all proof sets have closed am.Now I am really confused. am I too new at this?

@Oddguy 1998 and 1999 have Close AM proof varieties, with 1998 being the rarer of the two. I have never used an auction house before, but does Heritage not expect their coins to be authenticated before sale? I would think they would only accept a variety for sale that had been slabbed by a TPG, but maybe I'm wrong.

There is no 1996 Wide AM, and it's websites like internet people perpetuating the myth of it's existence. There are none that have been authenticated or come up for sale to prove it exists. (i was blocked from posting the names of those I was gonna name for perpetuating the myth of the 1996 WAM and had to remove them to post.........) This may help, there are charts online also. this is in order of hard to easiest (rarest to least rare) 1. 1992 Close AM - extremely rare 2. 1992-D Close AM3. 1998 S Close AM (Proof Set issued) 4. 1999 S Close AM (Proof Set issued) 5. 1999 Wide AM6. 1998 Wide AM7. 2000 Wide AM - least rare Now I would say the 2000 is the easiest to find, and it's still hard, I've only found a half dozen maybe since 2000. next is the 1998, I've only found 2 since then. I've never found any of the others, and I checked about 100 proof sets of 1998 and 1999 also, whenever I stop at a coin store somewhere or show, hoping I find something someone missed. never found the 1999 WAM or the 1992 CAMS. All are hard and it takes a lot of searching, but the 2000 is the easiest, followed by the 1998. Yes finding the 1998S or 1999S CAM in a proofset is just a little harder than finding a 1999 WAM in circulation. they are ranked in difficulty. Are you wasting your time? No. you will eventually find 2000 and 1998. it will be hard to find 1999, and either of the 1992s. You may find the proof set CAMs if you spend the time scouring dealer inventory in person, or watching ebay and hoping for good pictures that reveal it yet the seller doesn't know about it. (might be able to cherry pick the 1998S or 1999S CAM) if you are doing it to get rich, you'd be wasting your time though. if you find one it's going to be the common ones that are a couple dollars tops, if you happen to find a 1992, it's likely going to have condition issues that hold it back from top dollar considerably, but still finding a 1992 Close AM is going to be like getting hit by lightning in any condition. good luck!

In 2012 a 1998s pr70 sold for 7400.00 at heritage that is why I wanted to send mine there. I was told by third party they will grade it since it is in a set container. So I am not crazy? There are 1998s proofs in cam right? they are the pros.So why would they say there are none?

I've found about 10x 1998s and 10x 2000 WAMs when I used to look through rolls (2015-2016). I had my family grab some boxes for me and when I would visit I would pick them up. I used to get brand new rolls for the most part where I live in VA, so pickings were slim. Not sure if it matters, but I would say about 80% of my WAM finds came from boxes obtained in the Raleigh, NC area. The other 20% came from upstate NY, in Broome County. Other great finds from the Broome County area were 2x 1971 DDOs in AU, and 1x 1980 DDO in AU.
