Hello forum,
just want to warn you about this "interesting" counterfeit I found on ebay of a 8 reales 1812 NG with blurry photos, and without showing the edge indeed :D I won the auction but I've already opened a case about it. It weight 27g, diameter 40mm

Have you ever seen similar before? Seems like it feature the signature of the forger...

@Gasp Thank you for the warning.

This is an easy one to detect. Bside the badly produced details and obvious edge-markings (E.P & bow mint-mark?), the coin seems not to have the look to be made of silver.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that and hope ebay rules in your favor. Sadly it looks like a cheap reproduction made by casting.
I have seen similar but never with this signature.
Donīt feel disappointed by this bad experience! Keep learning and enjoying collecting these wonderful coins.

Best,

The "FP" initials are intentionally placed there by one of several companies, each with their own initials, that produce reproductions. Originally intended uses vary from use in films, as party favors or tokens for use at fairs or other events, and certain pieces are made for use in jewelry.

While it is a kindness that they at least mark the coins somewhere to identify them as not authentic, I can understand your frustration in receiving a coin that was offered as genuine.

I would echo Dirty Harry's sentiments and encourage you to keep studying, collecting, and enjoying the hobby.
