Poll Question
Just checking my judgement here ... I recently won a lot of coins with some duplicate dates which I plan to sell. Which of these two do you prefer, the one that shows up on the left in each photo, or the one on the right?

I like the surfaces of the one on the left.

I would keep the left one. It's free of corrosion, and quite legible. The one on the right may show a shade less wear on details such as the hair, but this is more than canceled out by the corrosion.

Thanks for the responses thus far. Same conclusion I reached. In hand, the one on the right looks even sharper on the portrait, but the corrosion (especially reverse) is an issue, as is the shaggy clip job someone performed on it.

Collecting this sort of numismatic material is different to collecting US Cents. With coins of this character they are individual in their own right. For this reason, if you don't really need them in your collection, then sell, otherwise, I would be inclined to keep the 2nd choices as well.
Perhaps you may wish to dispose the 2nd choices as part of a logical lot with others, where the lot is consistent within itself.

I definitely think the one on the left is more attractive.

Thanks to everyone who has posted and/or voted. Pretty clear result at 16-0.
I know a lot of the regulars here probably buy lots on a regular basis, but for me this is kind of new territory (I've done it twice before). I find that each lot helps in the spirit of learning, so I will have a couple of additional posts in the next days.

Corrosion costs 1-2 grades in my opinion. A regular VG is worth a corroded F-VF.

Unquestionably the coin on the left is the keeper!

I would keep the left. At 24-0, I see I'm not the only one!

When initially examining both coins I slightly favored the RHS coin. I love the weathered "just dug out of the ground" appearance of that coin. However, the verdigris on the RHS coin turned me off big time. That is like a coin having a very deadly version of COVID-19. Put that into your collection and all the other coins are likely to get "sick".
I am not sure if there are traces of verdigris on the LHS coin though. Maybe just with "mild symptoms"?
