Hello,

I am receiving this coin from my Grandfather who had mentioned it has been passed down from "ancestors". I am greatly appreciative of forum opinions regarding its grade and approximate value today, strictly for bookkeeping reasons.

Thank you in advance.

Why is it skewed, can you not take a photo of the coin from directly above it like the rest of us.

Overall I would say Fine, with some heavier wear on the portrait of the King. The colour of this wear is questionable and I am wondering if its a silver plated copper forgery.

Could you weigh it (At least 0.1 gram accurracy - we don't do imperial measurements in the Commonwealth) and measure it, the coin should also not be magnetic.

I am going with British Fine grading.

These are often seen weakly struck in the centre of the obverse so this needs to be taken into account when grading.
Overall, I'd agree with P's assessment, UK Fine. Yours is the 'no reverse stops' variety too which adds a small premium.
What is the edge reading?

I would agree with a UK Fine grading, or just a little better - it has good eye-appeal overall. I don't see any problem with a potential fake, so provided the weight and silver test are OK, it should be genuine.

Assuming the edge is normal it lists in my 2018 Spink at £200 in Fine. Very Fine is £1350, which is a very big jump, so I wouldn't be surprised if went well over the £200 at auction because it is attractive and evenly worn.

Ensure it is kept in a good protective sleeve or ring - the lightness on the head may be recent wear and it would be a shame to degrade the coin further.
