This is a large Silver medal, weighing 52 grams. The only thing I can figure out, besides the date, is the word "Canary" like the bird. Purchased it at bare silver value.
Any help would be great! =)
Thanks.

Harzer Edelroller is a type of canary. Getting that at silver melt value was a very nice find! Judging by the symbols and style used on the medal, I would also guess S. Germany or Austria. 1900 could be the year...it certainly has that period feel. --Just some total guesses here.

G'day, all of the features appear, I think, to be struck, except for the date, 1900, which looks engraved.
So, I'm guessing that this medal was intended to be an annual prize.

The coat of arms might assist in identifying the region that the medal is associated with.
The hat, above the cross, looks like a bishop's mitre. If I'm right about that, then you'd be looking for a region or city big enough to support a cathedral.
I agree with KS about Germany & Austria, but don't overlook Switzerland.

I think you did well to pick up such an interesting piece.

And if you're curious about researching further, I would look for a city/region crest with those 3 hills depicted in the shield. In the case of Switzerland, I have not seen that crest, and usually they don't fail to mention the Kanton or have some reference to Switzerland on medals, but I'm sure there are exceptions as this is a canary breeder's medal, not a shooting medal after all. There the possibilities would be limited to a town in the Catholic Kantons of Sankt Gallen, Appenzell, Glarus, Schwyz, Uri, Nidwalden, Obwalden, and perhaps Graubuenden.

Great info guys! =)
My list of the coat-of-arms is limited to the German states list in Krause and only a handful of the larger states I've found in online resources.
Would anyone know of a site that has a more detailed list of German, Austrian and/or Swiss coats?
Thanks again.
