Hello All,

New to coin collecting and have been going through so many coins lately.
Today I came across a penny in change given back to me and thought it was a Proof coin, it looked so shinny and smooth, but it had a D mint mark. Is it possible that this coin could be a first strike and possibly MS70. It does have some spot on it but didn't want to try and wipe them off.

Sorry, but just a spender. MS-70 is a perfect coin. Even at a 68, there are no distracting marks. This one, has lots of them. Lots of small ticks, a few larger marks, some friction rub. Not even a MS coin IMO. This ones already been around a bit for a 2020. Nice pictures though!

I would recommend looking through a lot of these threads to get a feel for grades. We sure aren't perfect, but the group usually gets pretty close.

Difficult to say if this particular coin was one of the first 2020 cents minted in Denver. It's a fresh coin showing very little circulation wear. Does have a few minor dings/hits--evidence of being jostled along with other coins as it made its way out of the mint and began the long journey to the commercial sector. Unfortunate that it has spots. I'd say a mid-range MS grade for this one.

to CCF! It's a decent coin, but not close to MS-70.
