Very nice! Do you have an attribution on it yet? It is nice to include that info as it aids with future searches of this website. Thx.

It is S2508 in the book - The only groat made with bust of Mary and titles including Philip of Spain. Mintmark is "Lis" which is correct. No specific date associated but will be between 1554 and 1558.

Although hammered isn't my main area of interest I do like these.
Here's mine. The obverse is probably a little better than yours, but your coin has the better reverse.
Same mintmark.
Apologies for the quality of the phone photos.

My Mary Groat is without Philip, but is quite a nice portrait:

Thank you Gincoin. I bought a lot of 12. I'll post some shillings(3) and sixpence (2) tomorrow.

Thats a nice Groat, Paddy. Beautiful portrait.

That's a good strong portrait Paddy, so often these are comparatively weak. Indeed, I have one of my own that is considerably weaker (P&M variety). I dug it from the ground in Gloucestershire three years ago, my only metal-detecting Tudor-find so-far.

In fact by coincidence, me and four others were back at the same farm last Sunday but none of us found a 'dickybird' except a few Civil War musket balls and a load of trash - just goes to show rather like fishing, when digging some days are luckier than others.

Getting back to Phillip and Mary, in my wider collection, one of my best Tudor coins is the P&M shilling I display as my avatar - it's one of my real favorites with a beautiful patina. Frank

Well that makes us quits then as my Philip and Mary is not as good as yours I think:

Ah, Paddy I see yours is the sixpence which I do not have. It's a nice collectible coin. Frank
