I won an auction for a pair of Netherlands coins. One of them was described as a 1970 silver 10 Gulden. The other coin I didn't really care about. It was the same size. Seller did not show both sides of the coins, so I could not verify what I was getting. I went ahead because the price was low.

Today I received a very light package that had a pair of 10-cent coins, which are worthless. I contacted the seller, who takes returns. Yet to hear back. The problem is that if I use ebay's return process, it would be almost a total loss. He charged $3 to ship me the garbage. I believe the return label would cost a bit more given the distance. The coins cost $6.39. He would be made whole and I would eat the loss.

I am considering offering a proposal after he gets back to me. I want him to refund me through PayPal. I'll eat the sales tax and send the junk back with a 55-cent stamp. Does anyone have another idea? I don't have much experience with these situations.

not correct at all, you need to open a case for item not as described, he will have to send you a label for the return shipping, once he has received the coins back, he will have to refund your entire amount spent, you will be out nothing , other than your time to ship it back, if he doesn't send you a return shipping label , ask ebay to step in, and escalate your case, then if he doesn't provide a return shipping label to you, you will most likely get to keep the coins, and get a refund,..

Silverwolf, I only had one experience with an item return, and that was as a buyer. I was on the hook for shipping in both directions, in that I did not get a full refund and was eventually charged for the return shipping label. In that case there wasn't deception involved, though. I just didn't like the coin.

for remorse returns, which is what your first one sounds like, don't do that this time, don't say I just didn't like it, that puts the return shipping on you, as it is what they call a remorse return, if you didn't get what you saw in the listing, just say the item/s, were not as described, and the seller has to pay shipping back, and you get a refund on everything,, if the buyer says no, then click on your return request, asking for ebay to step in. and escalate, your case... then the seller will lose the coins, and the refund..
