Need some advice in regards to potential purchase. I am not an expert on these coins although I have some knowledge and experience.

Very beautiful coin. It stands out from other MS-63s. Like if you lined up ten in a row and could only pick one it would instantly 'stand out' as the one choose. The above was actually done and the handful of pro dealers and serious collectors (with no skin-in-the-game) also chose this particular coin.

For me it's a "drooler". :-) LOL

Owned by close friend.

So I am asking the forum for advice in regards to:

#1 The market as a whole for this type.
#2 Fair price? Yes, I have searched multiple sites' archives along with what is actively for sale currently.
#3 What would you do? Broad question that is on purposely open to interpretation and I am wide open to opinions, conjecture, anything you all feel like stating.

My apologies in advance for lack of photos, and I hope I posted this in the correct category, if not, please tell me so I can move and learn.

Thank you.

We need good pics of both sides to help. Could you seriously answer your own questions without pics?

Coinfrog- I understand and your point is quite valid.

I have of course seen it in-hand and more than once. Regardless your point is well taken.

I will request pics from current owner and post as soo as possible.

That makes me assume it's about a point undergraded. If you wanted to pay FMV for a normal MS63 that'd be 3200, for a CAC'd 3500. A 64 would be 3700. So somewhere in that range

Coinfrog- Agreed and excellent call.

I have already got the ball rolling in regards to the pics.

Thank you (again) Coinfrog.

P.S.- I like the emoticon.

Here is one of the most expensive MS63 1899-S Double Eagles to sell recently.
https://www.scoins.com/lot.aspx?a=21&l=371

It brought $2360 last summer and is a premium example. I wouldn't consider paying a dime more than that.

With this relatively common date don't pay more than melt +10% unless it's really a 64 or a gold stickered 63.

These coins are priced almost entirely on the melt value of their gold below choice mint state. Don't pay some crazy premium for it.

You are spot on.

My drooling caused a short-circuit in my objectivity and my rational common sense.

Due to price coin is off my 'want list'. End thread. Thank you all.

P.S.- The pun is intentional.

The last time the government passed a big relief bill, gold moved up 20% and hasn't come down. Double eagle melters moved from 1600 to 2000 in a week. They're looking at doing another one.
