I sometimes bid on coins with horrible auction photos if it looks like there might be a chance they might be decent. I won this coin, advertised as an 1886 Type 1 Indian Head cent, for $12. As you can see, the seller's photos were less than stellar. However, it looked like there might be details on the reverse. I didn't have a clue about the obverse. From the photo I wasn't even sure it was an 1886. As I waited for it to arrive, I kept telling myself I had wasted $12. When I did get it the coin was nothing like the color in the photos. It was heavily dirt covered, most likely a dug coin, but it did show some details. I got out my trusty Verdi-Care to see what was under the dirt, expecting to find corrosion. However, the more I cleaned it with Verdi-Care the more details I saw. In the end, I had this lovely little thing. This was a pleasant surprise. The only downside is that level in my bottle of Verdi-Care is getting lower and lower. Paul Bulgerin

Very impressive result, and a successful gamble! Also, a classic example of how not to sell coins on ebay.

Nice results! The only issue I have with Verdi -care is that it tend to leave an unnatural sheen on the coin.

I gave the coin a quick dip in hydrogen peroxide and then a light dab dry with a soft cloth to remove any leftover Verdi-Care.

Yes , we don't want to leave excess VC on the coin without drying ,but Hydrogen Peroxide to remove the excess VC ?

Very nice after results. If it was me, I would spot treat it again right of the shield and @ 12k on the obverse. John1

Nice find! You saw the potential and took the risk. Well done.
Maybe if we all get together and beg @BadThad, a new batch of Verdi-Care may come into being?

Great results! I'm a Verdi-Care believer and have had great results so many times. The bonus is that when there are difficult tech questions Bad Thad is a great resource.
