I wasn't sure where to put this topic so feel free to move it.

Back in 1970 my dad's cousin's husband was a bit of a wealthy libertarian near D.C. He got involved as an investor in "Operation Atlantis", an effort to start their own libertarian country by building on a reef in international waters in the Caribbean. They even minted their own coins. He gave me one. They are the size of a quarter dollar. The effort failed when it was destroyed by a hurricane. There are just a few photos of these coins on the internet, and I found a site that values them at $120.00? Have any of you seen these things before? Here's my coin:

Dear EDM,

I work in the law faculty at a university in Australia, looking at micronations. I have recently finished a book on the people and stories behind many of the most prominent micronations around the world. I look at the motivations behind their founding as well as their attempts to gain recognition as a real country. Noting that no micronation has ever gained statehood, I also consider whether they nonetheless succeeded in their aims, including by drawing political and media attention to a particular issue.

One of the micronations that I look at is Operation Atlantis. I was hoping to include a reproduction of the Deca Coin in the book. Is it possible for you to send a hi-res image of this coin? I would be very happy to send you a complimentary copy of the book once it has been published in return (November 2022). Could you please email me and we can discuss? Happy to provide more details of course.

Many thanks,
MicronationsBook

I would love to know where you found the quote of $120.00 on the Deca. I have many of these Deca coins and would love to know anyone who has any interest at all in them or Operation Atlantis.

The quote likely came from the NGC website, which includes these coins because it includes all coins found in the "Unusual world coins" catalogue of unofficial, fantasy and micronation coinages.

As for selling them, put them on ebay, or through coin auction houses. People who know what they are will find them.
