You've got some champion pieces, particularly like the 1827 Half.

Take Care

You came to the right place. I can really help you out with your problems by allowing you to just send the entirer mess
to me. And I wouldn't even charge you for the inconvience.
One more thing is you pay the postage.
So back to reality. NO, don't clean any of the coins. Not even a little bit until you really know what you have. And even then, don't clean them. If you ever watched the Antique Road Show on TV you would usually hear someone say "this would have been worth a real lot more if you hadn't cleaned it"
Cleaning just about anything old is a NO, NO. Notice they never clean the Mummies at the Museum.
As aleady well noted just take your time with that collection. And try to organize it all so you know what you have. Might be a good idea to purchase a few albums for the coins presently not in them. If you do that you would have a better idea of what you have. You may want to make a list of coins required to complete sets and honor your grandfather by attempting to complete a few of them.
Don't know where you live but you may want to try Google for coin shows. Just type in coin shows and your state. Go to a few if possible and see what is going on with coins. Great places to find out all about what you have and don't have.
I'm kind of a Mercury dime nut so I would suggest trying to complete a set of those. Look closely at the Mercury dimes you have for the 42/41 and the 42D/41 dates. Worth a few dollars to say the least.
Again, welcome and keep us all informed.

I've been checking, but I haven't seen a 1942/1 yet. How hard is it to spot the 1 on those?

MrRick,

It's not hard to spot on uncirculated coins, but gets harder on coins with lots of wear. The 42/1 was produced by both the Philadelphia and Denver mints.

MrRick,

Can't do that ... don't own that one. I just nicked the picture for an example ... should have included a disclaimer.

btw ... I'm just across the river from you (Land O' Lincoln side). Are you North, South, or West county? For those not familiar with St Louis, East county is the Mississippi.

Been by there many times on my scoot. One of my riding friends works at the HD dealership in Festus and we'll ride down there on Saturday afternoons (not since Sep) and snag him when he gets off work. I'm in O'Fallon, just off 64.

Put a partial Mercury set together (in the ugliest Mercury album of all time). Here's the pics. Just short of a 42/1 & 16 D (just like everyone that's poor like me). Sorry the pics aren't better, they're as good as I could get.

Thinking about putting my partial Walinkg Liberty halves in some Blue Whitman books. Are those OK to use? My Liberties are in better shape than those Mercury's & I want to keep them safe.

Thanks for all your help so far

Nice! You are two ahead of me, I still need the 1921 and 1921-D!

If they are the albums with plastic slides allowing both sides of the coin to be seen, then yes.

Nice, I am in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood of the city, about 10 or so miles north of you.

Here's that 1804 Half Cent. I finally got a (halfway) decent shot of it. I remember seeing somewhere that there were 4 different versions. Can you tell which one it is?

Thanks

Since you live on the East Side, you can host the BBQ. Then we can go to Larry Flynt's & set ourselves apart by having pocketfuls of Silver Certificates instead of boring old dollar bills
