Hey guys, I noticed a little clash on the reverse of this Philly 1996 quarter I got in change the other day. Upon investigating I ran into a few things that had me looking over the obverse for little steaks coming from the eyes and an empty ear. And I found them. I guess those are from a die scrape or from an attempt to hide a clash by lapping(?) Oh yeah, the eagle spits too. Not very pronounced, but there's a small crack there. I haven't been able to pinpoint just what variety this is. It might be cherry picker listed maybe? What might something like this be valued at?

The areas in question look more like circulation damage than clash marks. The line under the eagle's beak doesn't have quite the right curved shape that matches Washington's neck and it extends onto the wing and that's not usual on the spitting eagle clash mark. I also don't see any other areas of clash on this coin.

There are several clashed quarters with the exact same clash. Under the left wing. Its from the eye area odd the obverse. The streaks on the obverse are partially in the eye socket and disappear at the bridge of the nose and come back out again after nose. Its either die scrape or lapping. The inside of his ear also has been lapped away. I can understand the spritting eagle bit being right, cuz I had to look hard got that. But the clashing on the reverse os definitely not damage. And the laser eye was from the die.

Look right above the arrows under left wing.

Depending on whether the affected areas are raised or incuse.
If they are incuse, the could be die scratches.
If they are raised, the they would be die scratches or Feeder Finger Damage?

Well, here's a better of the reverse. Couldn't do much better on the front though.

But when researching, FS-25-1996P-701 came up. So I was wondering if anyone could help further identify it.

No premium for these, just something to fill in the blank as to what happened.

Thanks Coop!

You know, this is the first time anyone has actually accepted my post as something that exists. Normally it's just, "Damage", "I don't see it", "are you on crack?", "It's a spender". So thanks for popping my coin forum cherry Coop! I appreciate it! I'm gonna go have a smoke and look for a coin forum morning after pill now.
