How does everyone store their coin collection?

Currently I group like items (proof sets, uncirc sets, commemoratives, etc) into separate shoe boxes but it is becoming somewhat unwieldy, so curious what others do. Also any security considerations?

Thanks
Rest in Peace

Well it all depends on how serious of a collector you are .If your just starting out as a newbie then the shoe boxes are fine . But there are many things on the market ( depending on your budget ) that you can buy to store your coins properly . Such as 2x2 cardboard holders ,plastic tubes ,small boxes , 2x2 plastic snap-locs ,etc . The main thing is to keep them in good condition ,out of humidity , away from dirt & dust . A dry not wet environment . If your eager to spend a little money then try this coin supply store : https://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pr...-140593409-c

My main, longtime method is Dansco albums, which includes the variety that holds coins in cardboard 2x2s.

Anything in original government packaging goes into sturdy generic storage boxes.

I recently started collecting PCGS graded coins. They go into a Lighthouse box that I bought from Wizard.

Wizard Coin Supply is awesome. They have some great options for storage. Jbuck's lighthouse box is pretty cool too.

Hmm. This is a question that made me think about my collection a lot. The answer I came up with is: it depends.

If a coin is very valuable (over US$300, say), I send it in for grading and then store it in a box specifically designed to hold slabs. If the coin is in a box from the various wold mints, I usually keep it in the box inside of a lidded plastic bin. That offers some protection from the elements. If coins are loose, then I put them in 2X2s into sleeves into 3-ring binders organized by country, denomination, and date, and catalog number. All of that is placed in a sturdy bookcase with each shelf rated at holding 300-400 pounds.

I have a lot of OGP stuff and was more curious the types of containers used, not necessarily whether to use 2x2 flips or binders. I am thinking about transitioning to some medium size sterlite plastic bins instead of shoeboxes.

Not a bad idea. Throw some desiccant bags in there as well and that should work.

I just dig a hole in my back yard and dump all my coins in there. Really safe that way. Who'd ever think of digging up a yard for coins?
In reality I simply put all my coins in Whitman or other brand
Albums. Many extras are simply put in 2x2 flips and stored in those large Red Whitman boxes.
