I am looking for information about the following medal:

Greyish metal (probably silver) Diameter 60.3 mm and 144.2 grammes (thickness: 5.45 mm)
O: ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS | (arms of Mexico - Eagle with snake on cactus)
R: (logo of the International Meeting on Cooperation and Development) | cancún 1981
The Mexican arms are like these on the 100 Pesos coin (KM483.1/2 (1977-79)).

The International Meeting on Cooperation and Development (North-South Summit) was held in the Mexican city of Cancún on 22 and 23 October 1981. It was attended by representatives of 22 countries from 5 continents. Some of the participants were: Kurt Waldhein (UN); Pierre Trudeau (Canada); François Mitterrand (France), Indira Gandhi (India), Margaret Thathcher (UK) and Ronald Reagen (USA). The conference was chaired by Mexican President Jose López Portillo.

I found one other commemorative medal for this conference listed. It is however much smaller, weighs 30 grammes and has a different design. There also was a stamp issued.

Possibly the medal shown was presented to the participants. I would like to know the number issued and the metal of which the medal was made. Information will be appreciated!

I collect Mexican medals, and this is the only one I have ever seen.

I'm surprised it does not have the oM mint mark.

When the Mexican mint is approached to make a medal, there are costs to design and make the two dies. To save money, sometimes the buyer will elect to use a die already made. I suspect this is why you see the stylized eagle rather than something to do with the meeting.

Here's another example of reusing a die:

Thanks nss-52 you for your reply. I had not noticed the Mo mintmark is missing. However if a regular coinage die was used it is perhaps not surprising as on the eagle side there is no mintmark, it is on the other side. In this case it may have been forgotten or it may have been decided to omit it. The example you show also has no mintmark if I see it correctly.
