I think it is a solid VG. Better OBV than REV

Wow, that's good news. I was just hoping for a G6 I thought at first when I looked at it, it was just a G4 Not great at these mercs. Tough ones. I got it for $30.00 at an antique dealer. Seems to have been a decent deal then.

Nice buy! I also agree VG. You may get a VG10 from a TPG.

Thank's all for your help. This will also be for the other two mercs. I posted. I have one more merc. (1916-S) but with all the advice I received here I can give that one a G4 Never knew much about merc. grading but now I feel pretty comfortable about them. I did some research and now I can see why the G6 on the 21-D and not a VG thank's also to Atlas. Just one more question maybe Atlas or another could answer. I know it's tough to grade a scan but why the MS-61 on the 23-P when it looks much better that the MS-63 on the 44-P ?

I was going to say VG-10 as well, the reverse is pretty close, but with a better obverse it could go f-12.

I agree with atlashealth,, the coin is at best a G-6 . as soon as the rim wore to the point of touching the letters on the reverse this coin became a G grade coin , sadly though with net grading standards the obverse will put this coin into a VG-8 plastic at just about any TPG and it would not surprise me to see it in a VG-10 due to its key date status .

I wouldn't grade it that low just because of the rims, it has some detail remaining in the pole, plus the obverse looks about F-12. I could go down to VG-10 for really weak rims but G-6 seems really excessive.

a few more contact marks and spotting make the 44 a 63 and the 23 a 61...... atlashealth is my name and conservative grading is my game!
