G'day,
I stumbled over a reference to the following book:

"A Search for Minting Varieties of Australian Pre-Decimal Coins 1910- 1964: Half Penny to Five Shillings"
by Mostyn Arthur Byrnes;
1st Edition: 2000
published by: Cosmos Collectables,
Box 188, North Ryde, N.S.W. 1670

I wrote to "Cosmos" last week, and my letter has been returned "not known at this address", from which I infer that they have moved, or perhaps shuffled off ...

My questions are:
does anyone have a copy of this book ?
if so, how do you rate it ?
and does anyone know of any other sources of this book ?

thankyou,

Peter in Darwin

Short review here:

Looks to be a good book. Let's hope someone picks it up and republishes it. I'd be curious to see how it compares to the Rennick.

I've been in touch with John Byrnes, son of the author, both of his parents passed aaway in Jan 2007 & he's clearing out their house at present.

Cosmos Cellectables 2000 was his Dad's business name & the PO box was also his Dad's. John's happy that people are interested in his Dad's work and is prepared to help us out if he can find some copies of the book & if he does come up with more than one, he suggested that one copy could be cut up and scanned to make a PDF version of the book that he would distribute. If several people contributed as a cooperative, he would get the book scanned & give each contributor the PDF.

This will all hinge on him actually finding at least 2 copies, one to keep as a memento of his Father, one to cut up. He owns the copyright, but any cooperative members who make the project possible can distribute or give away as many copies as they like.

I'll be keeping in touch with him via email and letting him know how many members have indicated their willingness to contribute to the PDF project.

If any members wish to contribute, either post here or PM me & I'll keep a record of names etc to pass on to John. At this point in time, costs involved in getting the PDF done are not known.

Using my provider, Optus. The only ones that 'bounce' are the ones I attempt to send to you. Test message sent a couple minutes ago to the other email address & it has also "bounced"

Just sent the same message via CCF, so hopefully you'll get it.
