I was looking through some pennies that I currently own, and well well, this is what I discovered. I'm hopping its the 001 on Variety Vista.

does not look like RPM-001. on VV it states D/D North.

SIDE NOTE: a very good diagnostic for a variety is mintmark placement. recommend on future postings, have a close up with the date and mintmark (not at an angle either).

Levelofmadnes, I actually try to avoid the glair. There is metal inside of this D mint, but I posted another picture of the mint mark and date.
I'll make a note of your recommendations, its appreciated.

There was an issue with a damaged punch that year. The more you view coins from that year, you will see examples of a lot of mintmarks that looked like that, that year.

Scroll down through these and you will see several of the mintmarks look just like your coin. (common that year on the small date zinc cents.)
