Found this a while ago and the base of the chair that Lincoln is sitting on appears to have steps through it. It is not polishing lines as they are too thick and too symmetrical. Thoughts?

John1 found an example of steps on the statue on a 1998 cent:

But I don't see any listing of this on the 1990 DDR's. Just a few listings of class 9 doubled dies. But I would like to see a wider view shots on your coin. I was wondering if that is horizontal die scratches?

Comparing it to 1998 WDDR-014, the other steps through statue DDR, these lines seem a tad thin. http://www.doubleddie.com/460112.html

I'm worried these could be plating bubbles, it looks like other parts of the coin have similar horizontal plating bubbles: the bay to the left of the statue even with the statue's feet, below the memorial, and below the date.

That was why I was wanting to see how far up, what I feel die scratches are on the OP's coin.

Tanman, definitely not plating bubbles. I've been doing this long enough to check to see if they'll flatten! They will not. I think I'll bite the bullet on this one and send it too Wiles.

If they are plating bubbles, they would be too small to easily flatten.

Worth a shot at submitting, let us know the results!
