Hello all, I am trying to figure out if this coin has been cleaned / dipped at some point. I am going back and forth on this, and could sure use some opinions. Coin is graded PCGS XF40. Thanks for taking the time to look:

If it was once cleaned, it isn't evident in these pics.

I don't see any signs of cleaning.

i agree with those above. the coin appears to be original. the obverse appears to be XF40 but the reverse is closer to VF35. I think the obverse holds the grade assigned

Thanks for the replies. The coin is so evenly toned, I just didn't trust myself on this one, since so many of this series has been cleaned, or otherwise molested. Thanks again!

If it was cleaned, PCGS would have said so.

This is a nice looking LSD with a nice strike and very clean surfaces. If it was totally original I believe it would have graded higher.

If it was cleaned, that was done long ago. Long ago gentle cleaning and subsequent retoning can be considered not important by TPGs.

If it was cleaned it is still market acceptable.
Nice coin!

Looks to have been cleaned long ago, IMO.

Probably non abrasivly at one point, but not too harshly. Looks very nice, nicer than a lot of EF-40s, and alot of EF-45s. Quote: If it was cleaned, PCGS would have said so. Not necessarily.

Exactly, that why I became suspicious, and thought I would get some opinions on here.

Thanks again for the replies, they were very helpful. I consulted with an old thread (2018) on this subject in which one poster suggested that most LSD's have been cleaned at some point. He went on to further suggest that some even sport CAC stickers, providing the cleaning is not obvious, and has pleasingly re-toned. I guess if the cleaning of a LSD is that questionable (such as in this case), I should not concern myself. KK.
