Hello Coin Community (CC). I am new to CC and new to this type of counterfeit coin. I was hoping to be educated.

I see no tool, casting marks, or manipulation of coin.

The patina goes straight through the coin.
How was this done?

What do I need to see to tell that it is fake?
Features of coin can only be seen under proper light and magnification.

Thank you all for any feedback and education you can provide.

Pictures of coin is in regular light (blurry look)
and diagonal light from an angle (sharper pictures)

coin weighs between 12 and 13 grams. Markings can be seen on edge of coin but are to hard to photograph.

I was told it was a counterfeit by grading authority. I also have not found any matches of obverse or reverse. The coin appears to be authentic in age and could be very old fake. I am posting more pictures. I stressed out the optimizer.

the weight seems a tad light but if it spent time in the ground I guess its possible it corroded a little bit off but the bottom of the strawberry twig is not positioned correctly it should be between the 7 and 9 not directly above the 7 and the date is too far to the right. I think its an old fake.

but not to despair, as the old counterfeits are still collectible and can bring some good money to the right collector if it is one. I see you are in San Jose, CA I know there are some EAC (Early American Copper) collectors in the area I'd contact one of them for guidance.

Thank you so much for the feedback on The Witch. I bought the coin the late seventies as a bit at the flea market for a quarter! I liked the coin then as I do now. I really thought it was the real deal because the patina goes throuh the coun. You can only see details under proper light I did notice the differences from coins from the same areas but hoped it was another variety of the many that exist. I bought it from an old who was selling off her deceased husband's coin collection. She would do strange thinga like place coins in plastic bubbles sale them for 25 cents from a toy vending machine. I picked up two Franklins that way! Sure miss those days. Thanks again for your reply.

Fake. The coin is based on a S-8 (obv 9 rev F) the strawberry leaf is obv 10 and the two reverse dies are G (NC-2) and H (NC-3). The edge seems to be too square, and appear to be plain. It should have a "vine and bars" edge. So wrong obv, wrong rev, wrong edge, and the strawberry leaf sprig is not in the proper position.
