I saw this 1930-D Lincoln on ebay. Since it is a red and brown coin, I would think someone noticed this error coin some ninety years ago and saved it.

How would you classify this type of error?

Looks more like a broken/ragged planchet. The areas are wide open. (The reflection is off the 2X2)

I would classify it as a nice one. Ragged plan. I'd love to have it.

Aha. I first imagined this raised on both sides, but now realize it's open front to back.

I am still waiting for the coin to arrive. It disappeared from USPS tracking after November 19 with no updates since then.

The coin arrived today and is very nice. It weighs 2.79 grams compared to 3.11 for a normal Wheat cent.

I have taken photos in sunlight and artificial light.

I use the term "ragged notch" for such errors.

For a coin in the condition as this one PCGS would label it as a Defective Planchet.

Thank you for letting me know what these are called. I was searching and couldn't figure out the terminology used.
