I have acquired several rolls of coins in plastic tubes. The coins and lids are stuck. How do I get them out without damaging coins. Coins on the ends look gem BU.

Thanks.

Hoglot, use a heat gun on medium heart or a hair dryer on high, it will soften the plastic, heat gun works best. Just be careful.

We had this discussion in-depth several months ago. A search of the CC blog site should dig it up.

Thanks, folks. I'll try the "heat" strategy.

Yes this happens every single time with the old plastic tubes without threads on the cap . Ones that are just placed over the tubes . To be honest I never tried the heat method but sounds like a good way to loosen up the tube so the coins come out without damage.

Just do that slowly. You don't want to get the coins hot too.

Yes, that other thread was from me. I wound up using a saw which cut a groove into the pennies and the ones stuck in the cap I used a hammer and beat them out. The plastic was glued to every penny so I didn't have a choice. Lots of post mint damage.

Good luck.
