With Security rolls, are there any rules about obtaining them? for example can I just go into a bank and ask for some (and pay of course)?

Someone will correct if I am wrong, but banks don't hold them. Banks get the coins in bags.

Security rolls go to retailers, and their not always unc as they re-roll them.

To get nice unc rolls you need to go straight to the security company and they don't always hand them out.

I normally get a supply of rolls as a new coin is released.

You can go to any bank and ask for rolls of coins. First you should be a bank customer, or you'll get ripped off big time in charges. Customers are free. Simply wave your bankcard, visa or mastercard at them. Get to know your tellers. Some are oxygen thieves, but most are very helpful and are aware of why you want them. Ask them if they've got any new rolls. Go back every few days and ask.

If they don't have new rolls, simply take old ones. Break them open and look for errors and varieties.

It works for me.

Individual branches can be producers or consumers of coin, depending on their client mix. There is a benefit to visiting both types.

Producers don't have rolls, as they send sacks of coin back to be rerolled. However if they are in a "quality" area, the coin they source from their customers can contain much of interest to us, be it new, rare or error coins. These branches are good to visit in the quiet times.

Consumers get regular deliveries of rolls. You can occasionally strike it lucky and get new rolls from them, although this is rare. The reason is that Armaguard have an exclusive on new coin, and in most of the country they do not supply banks. The other security companies only buy in new coin from Armaguard if they're desperate, which is a rare occurrence in peak times only.

Your best bet is to find a large retailer and get friendly with the manager or supervisor9s) responsible for handling cash. They WILL sometimes agree to call you when they get in new coin. Then you have to go to a consumer bank and get rolls to exchange. Since they pay for their rolls, stores will absolutely refuse to exchange them for notes, and they dislike bagged coin, so get a supply of rolls to swap.

The 1883 & 1984 20 cent Mint rolls are very scarce, though minted in the millions, almost the entire production was melted down and exported as base metal cupro nickel bars. According to Maccas...only one $200 Mint Roll box of each year has surfaced so far.

I have had difficulty getting them from the banks as they are rolled but all diiferent dates on them
I get mostlty in $20 in bags etc.
Best to get from the dealers unless you have contacts from the bank when a fresh batch has come in and they will save your ordered request
