This "D" is slightly rotated or angled clockwise and different from some other 1989d coins I have. Could you tell me if this is considered an error or what and why?
In 1989 the mint marks were stamped into the dies by hand. Because of this there is a great deal of variety in the location of the mintmarks.
This is also what allows for RPM's or repunched mintmarks
Coincidentally, 1989 was the last year the Mint did it this way. Starting in 1990 the mintmark is engraved into the master hub and then transferred directly to the die when it is made. No more variation.
Not really an error and only really egregious examples are generally collected or have value.
I called them angled. There is a term rotated that applies to RPM and also rotation of dies. So rather than adding the same term, I used a different term.
