Hello,

Can anyone please tell me if this is a genuine drachma? It looks like Hellenistic Period but I'm not sure. Also, it's pretty thick. Condition is also very good. Thank you!

Edit: weight is 12.3g

Hey, thanks :) I'm looking to buy it from a fellow, don't know the diameter. He's asking round 300USD for it, which is why I wanted to get an oppinion from you folks since it's not certified.

I don't purport to be an expert on ancient coins, but this doesn't look old at all. Maybe I am wrong but there is no way that'd I'd purchase this coin without expert certification (NGC, etc.).

Fake. The weight of an Alexander III tetradrachm should be ~17g.

The weight is too much for a drachm and too light for a tetradrachm. The overall appearance indicates that it's a fake. I would not buy it.

That's my 'gut' feeling as well.

I always like to closely examine each coin in hand before deciding to buy.
If you are inexperienced in buying ancient coins, this one need to be taken on approval to an experienced specialist in ancients, before deciding to buy.

If you are willing to pay that much for it, you can buy a certified coin or from a reputable dealer with a lifetime guarantee of authenticity.

I agree. It does not seem genuine to me. The style is doubious in addition to a wrong weight. Don't buy it!
