Was sorting pennies today and came across this Lincoln Wheat
and was curious if anyone out there seen anything like this before? I see error's in several places all over the coin but the "S" in front of the "9" seems odd. Thoughts?

to the CCF!

It's interesting, but it's just Post Strike Damage. The coin has seen some hard hits in circulation. The 1 in the date was normal when it was struck, but something reshaped it when it was damaged. The same for the other pits and scratches.

It's difficult to tell exactly the rough environment a coin must go through in circulation once it leaves the mint, but your cent has certainly has had a wild ride, striking against over coins, making marks and receiving hits. After several years in circulation, you coin here is the result. All of what you see are marks from its long history. All those marks are considered post mint damage ( PMD) and I'm afraid bring no value to your cent, sorry;

to the CCF! Keep searching!

Thank you everyone! I appreciate your input.
If a "1" can damage itself into "S" then it's enough to impress me to put it away in the character books for that reason alone. Like an old suit case that traveled to too places but if it could only talk!

Have a great day!

Copper is a relatively soft metal, and can take on interesting shapes when hit. Sadly, that's not a true S in the 1 position.
