PCGS is tough on these. In one of their slabs, XF40. True grade? I'm thinking AU50, although I'd want to see the hair/cap/feathertips in person to be sure.

Either way, a tough find at that grade, only 20,000 minted, and a true $kilocoin. Here's the Coin of the Day!

I agree with AU-53, I think it might go higher. Very nice coin.

Hi Whitman,
I have an 1844 dollar, unfortunately hairlined from an old cleaning but ANACS graded it as "AU Details". Here's an obverse photo. I'd estimate your coin matches it for detail so it should grade at least AU-50. Yours also appears pretty original, with no obvious cleaning damage. It's a nice one!

I believe there are at least two obverse dies known for this date. My coin is a doubled-die obverse. The markers are quadruple vertical lines on the shield and an extra outline at the shield edge. From what I can see, your coin has sets of 3 vertical shield lines and one less edge outline, so I presume it is the normal die variety. These types are equivalent in value.

These are very cool coins. You can be proud of yours!
