Greetings all,

New to the board, but I have been searching rolls from the bank for over a year now. Today, after reading what I have here I decided to get a box of pennies from my bank. This was the first full box I have broken, I usually just go through what we get for our daily tills in at work -- usually between two and six dollars worth of pennies. My results weren't too bad, could have been a bit better, but also could have been very much worse. The 1913 Wheat penny looks like it has been around since 1913 and has been well used; the 1929 is in far better shape but nowhere near mint by any means. I don't sort out the coppers, nor have I started looking for error or variant coins. I live in northwest Ohio, which is probably why the Canadian count is so high.

Penny Breakdown

Wheat Pennies: 10 (1913, 1929, 1941, 1942D, 1944, 1946, 1954D, 1956D, 1957, 1957D)
Lincoln Heritage Pennies: 20 (all four varieties, both mintmarks for two)
Lincoln Shield Pennies: 56 (both mintmarks)
Canadian Pennies: 60 (oldest 1956)
Other Foreign: 1971 Bermudan Penny (tail out on the end of a roll to boot!)

I've had great success over the years searching rolls. I am up over 900 wheat pennies, 83 different (84 now with the 1913). Included in that prior tally are two 1909 VDB pennies in awesome condition (sorry -- I collect, not grade!). I've got one Indian Head cent, a Euro Two Cent Piece, a fifty haleru piece from the Czech Republic, a penny from the East Caribbean States, and two pennies from the Bahamas -- and that is just from rolls of pennies. Those numbers do not include what I pull from drawers at work or other coin denominations that I also search. I look forward to seeing what the rest of you pull as well as sharing my continued pulls from this fun and relatively inexpensive hobby! Happy hunting!

I picked up three boxes of pennies today at lunch. I did not have much time to eat so I went by Captain D's for a large fish sandwich. Got my change back and noticed a dark small coin. I thought it might be a silver dime. The thing was so worn down I had a hard time figuring out what it was. It actually turned out to be another Indian Head cent (1888 I think). That makes number five in a little over a month. It would be interesting to know who and why someone is dumping them.

Gone, but not forgotten.

The Shield has replaced the Memorial, just like the Memorial replaced the Wheat.

Just finished my first box, and for somereason photobucket hates me so I can't upload the photo, hopefully will get a good picture in here!

Quick question. Do you guys reroll your pennies or just put them in a big box and give them to the bank?
