Today's search consisted of 600 pennies: 550 NF String paper, 50 hand-wrapped (Coin-Tainer).
The results: 1 Wheat (0.17%): 1957-D, VF-30
16 Canadian (2.67%): 1950 1961 1962 1963 (2) 1964 1966 1968 1970 1973 (2) 1976 1981 (2) 1987 1994
2 New dates: Log Splitter 1950 (Canadian)
There were lots of BU coppers from 1968 to 1970.. I wonder what that was about..

I searched $25 in a combination of customer and bank-wrapped rolls and they yielded the following:
*17 wheats (Oldest was 1936) *15 Canadians (Including George VI's from 1945 and 1948 [aren't '48-dated Canadian coins rare?]) *A one-cent coin from Trinidad & Tobago *A 2009-D Presidency cent, completing a circulation strike set of 2009 Lincoln cents.

Nice finds n the wheats and George VI's! I don't think the 1948 is any more special than the other.. It has the same prices as the others in a catalog I have, but I'm not 100% sure..

I believe '48 was the transition year for George VIs. If I'm not wrong India gained independence in '47. The '48 dies had to be changed thus the '47 with a maple leaf were minted in '48 until the dies sans "IND" were made. I am new to Canadian cents but that is what I believe I understand.

Some '48 Canadian coins (notably the '48 Voyageur Dollar) are quite valuable, so that's why I asked. And yes, in 1947, India and Pakistan gained independence, but they did not have the dies with the removed "Et Ind. Imp." from the obverse, so they struck 1947 Maple Leaf coins until the 1948 dies arrived from England.

You are right that 1948 Canadian coins are scarce. 1948 cents are a little harder to find than other years. Also there are 3 varieties of that year and one is quite scarce. The 1948 Dollar had a mintage of just over 17 thousand.

$55.00 worth seven S MM's, 10 wheaties including a nice 1936P and an AU58 1952S and not even one canadian or other foriegn coin. I pulled a 1892 IHC awhile back and I go with the volume theory the more you put the eye to the better the chances of finding one. I have yet to see a 2011 of any kind. Pulled a really cool 1971S with some outstanding Mechanical Doubling going on. Will post a pic here in the next day or so. I am in the middle of changing my work space around, going to be much better when I get it all done. Everything will be within arms reach.
