merclover Bedrock of the Community United States 10635 Posts	Posted 10/13/2011 4:04 pm Yes, some of the quality was terrible of the late '80s and most of the '90s (and even the 2000s) but too, it's the materials that don't hold up. Zinc is very bad compared to copper, and we're seeing that now. That's why when you come across a problem-free example in MS, hold on to it! As the years progress, those zinc pennies are only going to get worse and worse, and nice examples much harder to find. Report this Post to the Staff

grancap74 Valued Member United States 289 Posts	Posted 10/13/2011 4:28 pm After reading through what has been written, we're keeping all copper and anything AU to BU of 83 till now. Maybe it's just our luck, but we've been through a lot of cents and have yet to come across a WAM from anything modern, some that are close but according to pictures here they would not qualify. These must be much more rare than what I thought when we started. I think I'll be doing this by myself pretty soon, it's driving my wife nuts. On a average of around 1000 coins we get 6 to 8 wheats, 70 to 80 copper. I don't know if that's typical or not for everyone here. We're in north Florida so I'm sure it depends on where you are, very few "D" or "S" mints here. Thanks again for the knowledge. Report this Post to the Staff

grancap74 Valued Member United States 289 Posts	Posted 10/14/2011 5:03 pm Update through 5500 coins. Along with the pictures, have about 30 wheats, 450 additional copper cents. Highlights though is the 09vdb and 55s (which looks better than almost every cent after 1993 we have searched. Haven't had the success as some I've read here but still 200 or so more rolls to go. I only have one 2000 WAM... no 1998 WAM for me yet, although there are several people here that have found a few of them. I'd really love to find the 1992 CAM... but I'd be tempted to sell it!
