Owassokie, Without seeing it, I can assume 2 scenarios, based on what you've described. 1. It's a cleaned coin (which would be PMD. I've gotten BLAZING IHC's from ebay auctions (you know the ones with "unsearched wheats") without a trace of LIBERTY to be found. Since everything IHC grading revolves around the legend, its pretty important to be there and may look MS/RD if it's worn, cleaned, and retoned (dipped). 2. Its a Grease Filled Die. (someone may correct me, but I believe greasers have been around since automated presses) Did you look at it through a loupe? If so what magnification? For IHC's you should be able to make out LIBERTY with the naked eye, or at least some of it. If not, than its probably graded GOOD at best. Regardless where this topic ends up, please update on this thread whenever you get pics - would love to see it. |

I was a little bored today at work and after reading ccf for a few hours I decided to take a walk across the street and pick up a few rolls of pennies. I was excited when the teller handed me 4 rolls in worn out red wrappers. They definitely appeared to be hand rolled from a depositor. As soon as I got back to my office I dumped the pennies out and within minutes found

Every time I see a 55 coming out of a roll I get excited that today might be my lucky day.
The only bummer was that I didn't have a loupe in my car or my desk so I have to wait until I get home for closer inspection of the rest of the roll.
Needless to say tomorrow I will be going back for a few more rolls and hopefully they will be from the same source.

After picking up $10 in machine rolled pennies, I found 21 wheats! Two are from 1920, another two are from 1926, there is one from 1935, 1938, and I have a 1955S, and a few dates from the 1940's.

52raymo, red like your avatar...light red...almost gold. Lonz, Thanks for the opinions. I'm guessing your #1 to be pretty close. I don't know if its dipped. I have looked through a 12x and 5x loupe. If its a Greaser, it would be opposite the normal patern because its the very center of the coin that seems blurry. The further out, the better the detail. I'm assuming PMD (probably polished) but I hate to just throw it in the PMD pile if there is a chance its some kind of error coin. Thanks for all the help. Jbuck, I understand why you moved it... definitely more appropriate there. But I find some of the other topic boards less than helpful. No need for me to give details because it would sound tacky but I generally prefer the opinions of my fellow CRHing friends. OO Kelly |

If its really slick and gold, it might be dipped and polished. I bought this one on ebay for 1.50. A dealer told me it was worth maybe 40-50 bucks.   Oregon coin geek.....*** GO BEAVS ! ! ! ***

I have something great to share, which at least deserves its own post. Last week I found my oldest CRHing find ever (along with 10 other Liberty V nickels). It was an 1884 V Nick. Last night, I was working a box of Lincolns in plastic shrink wraps. I clipped one end and pushed the cents in to my left hand in the form of a log (as usual). The top cent was the reverse of a decent IHC. Sweet...an IHC ender (wish I would have seen it before tearing the wrapper). I flip it over and its a 1883. Sweeeeet. My 1884 V's reign only lasted 4 days. I'm guessing the 1883 IHC will stand for years but you never know. OO |

Raymo, That 1902 is nice. Mine is moresimilar to the 1902. Its not as nice (even near the rim) but similar in color. If mine was dipped, it was some time ago.

Dang, halfway through my box I had 22 wheats. I figured I would get around 50 in the box. I found just one more but at least it was a nice 36-S. 23 wheats for the box.

I picked up two rolls after I got out of work and in the first roll, I got a 1953-D as well as a real shiny 1969-S! 14 coppers in the first roll counting a 1982-D and the wheat I got. The second roll also had 14 coppers, including another 1982 copper and a 1936 wheat! I found a 1959 that looks like it's at the end of its life. Also one Canadian was inside each roll too, both dated 1968. Pretty fun finds I felt for just two rolls.
