I went through a roll of pennies where someone had cleaned every last coin ... each one was as shiny as new, including a 1946 (shiny as new but rather worn!). There was no rhyme or reason, the roll included the one wheat and then 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's. They must have been dipped, and scrubbed a little because most of the coins showed some light surface scratches. Kind of funny that someone went to all that effort and then just turned in the roll at the bank.

I posted this awhile ago about going into a bank and opening an account just to order penny boxes.

Today, I went back into the bank and the lady that opened my account just about flagged me down:

Teller: Well hi there! I've been waiting to see you! I have a whole bunch of rolls of "old" pennies, would you like to buy them?
Me: Absolutely.

So I brought them home and have been searching through them. I'm about a third of the way through. A lot of copper - more than I normally get per roll, but only 2 wheats so far.

However, the second roll I opened, I found this:

Always makes my day to see something silver and shiny in my penny roll.

I'll post more gems if I find them.

I just left a family visit in Delaware. Stopped for two boxes, hoping the close proximity to the P-Mint
Will bring me good fortune LOL.

Let's see when I get home! :)

Wow. I was just looking through a few CWR before bed and I found my lowest year penny yet. An 1865 Indian Head penny. Only in good condition but decent shape for a 147 year old coin found circulating around.

Wow Jdionne! That's a pretty big deal and might deserve its own thread. We need pictures my friend. That's the oldest CHRing find I've heard about...I'm sure there is bound to be something older but I know that "once cent" in the 1850's was about the size of a quarter so an 1865 cent has got to be really close to the oldest found in circulation. Congrats!
