Cool-Lincoln-Roll-Finds-From-Bank-Rolls----Post-Yours!

And this one, its a 1972-D, and the border(correct term?) thins as it goes along, can someone remind me what this error is called. Starts out wide and thins as it goes along the coin. Sorry For Bad Pictures

off and on I read mention of saving copper cents for possible melting later, usually accompanied by mention of the illegality of melting for bullion metal, what about all the silver coins that are sold to be melted (now and especially in the past). Is it ok to melt silver coins but not copper? doesn't make sense.

Ohh. Something I might know! (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

There is a federal ban on melting pennies and nickles but not on other coins. So its not the content its the actual coins.

There was a similar law in effect for silver way back when that was lifted.... haven't researched whether it came before or after the boom in the 80's but will certainly be interesting to find out considering copper is poised to follow a similar path.

I didn't even know silver coins where able to be melted learned something new today. Off the subject of silver I'm wanting to do some coins in my dansco of mint coins and most of the ones I've been buying are in the plastic from the mint would it ruin the coin if I open them for my album

I'm not a professional in this but I know some sellers on ebay that do that for their business I think. It looks like it anyway. I know I saw one or two of their listings where they actually sold the coin in the case and the case had been cut into pieces.

For you opening your own I would imagine it would really depend on how carefully you open them. Not scratching them, not handling them except by the edges, etc. Wear cotton gloves, probably other tips I dont know.

Or you could look for the sellers on ebay that sell them mint from taking them out of cases already though I dont know how to really tell what they have that you are looking for. I know I bought a 'Gem Deep Cameo' 1976 Ike that was immaculate and it was in a basic 2x2 plastic flip. No finger prints, no scratches, no dust (except what I added to it. :( so if thats good enough for you I know thats buyable.

But I am not a professional I've only been a collector a couple weeks lol. :D

There is no doubt they will lift the ban. Nothing lasts forever. The mint has been cranking out the cents starting in 2010 (4.01B), 2011 (4.94B) and 4.17B already in 2012. To me, it seems like they are getting ready to lift the ban and eliminate the cent.....letting this last run fuel the final "last needs".
