Did my last box of cents I picked up in 09 last night. Got 27% copper, a 2000 Wide AM, a 1998 Wide AM, and two wheats. Oh yea some plastic token that looks like a cent.

Happy New Year!

Wife got me a $25.00 box today and it included a 1909 (no vdb) in g4 as well as a half dozen other wheat pennies (mostly from the 1940's). Also got some nicer bu coins to include a 1970 S large date and a 2009 D presidential cent which is only the second one I have found to date. Tommorow I will check for the am errors on the 1992, 1998, 1999 and 2000. Sincerely, John Leckrone

I'm curious what others think -- when I started searching penny rolls a couple years ago, I noticed that "S" pennies from 1968-1974 were even more scarce in my rolls than wheaties. So I started saving them. Is this because I live in New England? What do people in other parts of the country find?

The San Francisco mint pennies always had much lower production numbers and so they got pulled out of circulation pretty quick. Additionally they were only produced from 1968 to 1974 for circulating coinage so that also limited the supply. A LOT of them were removed from circulation early on and as the years went by more and more were pulled. Most $25.00 boxes will only generate 5 or 6 s mintmarks. I always kept them seperate as well when searching pennies. Sincerely, John Leckrone

Exactly, not to mention attrition. Also, the 68-S is the lowest mintage Memorial cent. I rarely find the S mint Memorials, I definately don't find 5-6 per box, they are rarer than wheat cents for me.

Since you all are talking about the 68S, what would a roll of them that look brand new sell for?

I'm still looking for another 73-S for my second Memorial set. They are indeed a beast to find.

Wow! my scanner sucks. Any tips on what works best for putting images on here? I've never took coin pictures before.

all the pics I've taken here come from my Sony cybershot 6.0. Most of the time I use the ISO mode.

AMetalHound, take a peek here.

I live over here in the bay area, just an hour south of SF. After reading the last several posts about the scarcity of s-minted cents I checked my Whitman folder, and to my amusement, some of my nicest cents are s-mints. (I've searched through only about five boxes.) I am in need of better p-mint cents, however.

Is there some kind of trade network set up where people from different parts of the US can trade coins with different mintmarks?

Anyway, here are some pictures of my SF cents found in rolls:

Lizzyjo, there is a buy, sell, trade section here on the forum. Once you have 50 posts you will be able to utilize it. You may even be able to find a trade partner for current issues as well!

Living near Sacramento, I too have had an easy time of finding S cents. Yet so far, none look as nice as lizzyjo's. I search bank rolls when I have the time, but wanted to pass along an interesting tidbit that may be old hat for you pros: look on top of vending machines. In that last year I've found about four dollars worth of cents up there. I don't know what possesses people to throw away money but I'm happy they do.
