Took a few days off from cent searches......picked up a box at lunch today. When I opened it, I noticed very few gold rims looking back, so I grabbed five rolls to open while I ate.
This is gonna be a fun box: 5 roll total
183 Coppers
10 Wheats . 44S, 40, 46, 50D, 52D, 56D, 45, 52D, 44D, 58.
2 Canadian - 52 and 56.
Can't wait to get at those other 45 rolls now.

Finished up that box.
Copper count for the box - 1734 coppers, so about 70% copper.
Wheats - 31 total, nothing major, couple of 44S's. Oldest was 35.
Canadians - 14 total, oldest was 52, newest was 1998.
12 S-mints ranging from 44 thru 73.
No WAMS/CAMS - but very few to search, maybe 15-20 of each year from 92/98/99/00.
Picking up a box of Nickels this afternoon and will now grab another box of cents from that same bank.

I only average around a dozen per box.....sometimes a little more...but I don't believe I've ever found 31 in one box ! Even though I have thousands of Wheats......I sure like "adding to the pile"! |

I like adding to the pile too, I roll them by decades. I do have several rolls that are done by year/mintmark too. Nothing too uncommon though.
None of these were any better than VF/XF, but I did get a couple of AU or better 1959 and 1960's.
I'll probably auction off 100 rolls of copper here in the next month or so, to eliminate most of my pile.

This is slightly off topic but related. I go through about 4 boxes a week. I lay them on my desk under strong light, sort and go to work. Recently I have started having pain in the back of my neck. After changing pillows, etc, I decided to stop searching rolls for a few day. You guessed it. Three days latter, no pain. So, I have to adjust my way of looking at these, not bending my head forward and down. I have thought of a few way to change but want to go to the experts. What have you guys experienced and how do you look at you coins.  Jim |

No pain in the neck with me yet.......but I try to sit up straight all the time and not "hoover" around my work light.....or "stoop" over the coins I'm looking at. I do have to put an extra couple of pillows on my chair though !! After more than 45 minutes my backside tends to start getting sore ! Let alone by the 3 or 4th hour !! ...  |

got my first box-o-pennies. went through quickly to just seperate the coppers, oldies, really nice lookin ones and put the rest in the pile. got 6 rolls or so unmarked nice shiny ones. about half a roll are '10 shields. after that got 12 or so wheaties of various condition mostly 40's and 50's with oldest being a '19. it had half worn wheats and some wear on the face. 4 rolls of coppers. gotta go back and check the pile for dates for the WAM and cam. dont thnik ill check them for any other errors. Don't forget to look at the 95's for DDO's. 72s and 83's also. Some separate the 82 large and small, copper and zinc. I used to, but have stopped. |

ya, I gotta get a loop or something. the magnifier I'm using isn't kutting it. I feel like my eyes are gonna pop out trying to look at these things.

At first I didn't realize it was from searching....then it finally occured to me it was from the way I was resting my arm on the table I use. LOL I took a week off and I felt better. DOH! I don't know what to tell you Jim other than to be aware of your posture while searching. I've found that if I reposition myself a few times while searching and take more breaks it helps. Its good for circulation to get up and move around once or twice an hour anyway. Besides, getting your own beer counts as exercise - right?
Who knew coin searching/collecting would be hazardous to our health?

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the help. I, like most I would guess, set for hours and don't get up. I will change that. I am working on an idea that might help all of us if it works. I will keep you posted. And, from now on, I will drink beer while searching. Gives me a reason to get up.  Jim |

Haven't really been searching hard, letting a stiff neck rest, but wanted to show my most recent "Why". 99 of them, 1974 BU cents. They were in two boxes. There were also as many that had enough marks or spots on them that I did not pull them and they went into the dump pile. Here they are:   I have had a feeling for a long time that there are inventories of misc dates that were not circulated during their mint yr. Then, The next yrs cents come out and the previous yrs cents are inventoried to be added to circulation latter. How else do you explain over 200 red BU 1974s in two boxes? If you agree, I will clue you in on who shoot Kennedy. Jim |
