1954 Nickel S Over S Mint Mark? - Coin Community Forum

andybwells New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 11/25/2020 9:29 pm Hello everybody! I assume I will be on this forum a lot, I just started coin hunting and collecting recently. Today I got my USB microscope and coin mats in the mail and I found a questionable coin that I think maybe worth some looks. It's a 1954 Nickel and it shows signs of an S over S mintmark. I know there is also an S over D but this doesn't look like that....this is the first error coin I've found so it's exciting. I hope it's really an error! coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 11/26/2020 08:36 am OMM would be a D over S. A RPM is a S/S. but as John1 mentioned, this is Machine Doubling. Note the outside of the device is affected. The contour is removed. The affected are is flat shelf like. Just MD as mentioned. Note on these examples, the mintmark is enlarged, showing spread.
