So just when I thought I was getting a handle on the hole DD subject I run into a coin like this one.

When a strongly punched coin is causing this issue that I have pointed out how can you tell the difference or is it still a DD?

I do believe that there is certain spots that are Machine Doubling here on the gun and his hand

Then there are these two spots that I believe are actually true DD. At the corner where his hair meets his back and under his nose here.

But what about the rest of the raised area? Is it DD or something else if so what is it from and how do I know the difference?

I do not think it is a doubled die. Looks like MD or abraded die.

I know the whole coin looks deceiving so it's hard to say whether I'm right or not but I have been right before and then again everyone's entitled to atleast one in life LOL

Even isolated die polishing can make a dip into the fields on a die. When this happens, it leaves a raised area on the fields on the coins struck with that die.

It will also happen on a normal strike as well. That is a die issue. Having a hard strike will often give you stronger devices.

I definitely have been listening to the thing you say about DD. That's why I was crossing my fingers in hopes that since it was in the middle of the coin it would be a DD

I would suggest you look up the John Wexler site and see what to look for on DDR's on the States/ATB quarters. The area affected in the central area of the die/coins where the DDR is found. Other areas can be disregarded when you under stand why just one area will be affected.

But they don't have any listed ones yet for that State/Design.
But look at the other designs and note where on the coin these DDRs are found. On the States Reverses, the Minnesota Quarters have a huge number of DDRs on just one design.

Knowing where to look, then you will find these DDRs. Keep in mind that they are raised on the field or designs, that should not be there:

Knowing where to look will keep you from being less satisfied with what you are finding.

Less satisfied? I'm not sure what you mean. I have been looking at wexler's and that's why I asked about this quarter. The spot that I was truly wondering about was right in the center. But just because it's not listed on wexler's doesn't stop me from looking at every coin I find for that one passed over in the search. The difference between ignorant and stupid, ignorance means you don't know but stupid means you can't learn and I am far from stupid. That's why I found the 2001 P nickel. well I have had it for almost a year but didn't know what I was looking at untill recently. And now I found another. So.... Yeah
