I picked up this oddity recently. It is a 1905-D Barber half dollar with a very strong doubled die obverse and reverse.

First, the coin is 30.6mm in diameter and weighs 11.03g. It appears to be silver plated brass, with the brass core visible in many places but shows clearly in the image of the stars.

And of course there is no such coin as 1905-D on a Barber half, and that really looks like a D and not an O.

Both the obverse and reverse show very strong doubling. However, this coin is worn and polished and extremely hard to photograph, so hopefully it shows up in the images. Yellow arrows point to doubling on the date and stars on the obverse, and it is really obvious on UNITED STATES in the full reverse image.

Just a fun one.

this coin is worn and polished

While I agree that it seems to have circulated somewhat, I wonder if the as-struck condition was pretty worn already. The plating looks pretty thin. Either way, an interesting item to add to your collection.

I believe this was a contemporary counterfeit designed to be passed off. So yes, it was struck in a way to look well-circulated already, but certainly not made with the brass showing through so likely went around in circulation for some time. Also, not a rare date, let alone even a real date, so doubtful it was made later for the rare coin market.
