I put this quarter aside because it seems to have a smll Cud at the bottom of the boat, but as I looked at the edge I saw that the reeding was very wierd. On one side it is normal, but a gradual line occurs that is flat and above the reeding. It then completely takes over the copper portion of the edge, then slopes back down again. Once again, the flat area is higher that the reeding, telling me that it isn't wear. Also, the coin is near uncirculated, with only a few scratches. If anyone knows anything about this, please tell.

,Matt

It's a partial collar strike. The collar ( the third die ) which imparts the reeding on the edge of the coin, did not fully deploy. The original edge of the planchet is what you are seeing where there is no reeding. Very nice find !

No Cud. Cuds are on the outside edge of the coins because of the break away of the outside of the die:

When a coin is struck with a break away of the die, a Cud happens. The open void will filled with what ever left over metal is left to fill the void.

No premiums for die chips/breaks. But a Cud has a big break off the die.
