Minnimarine Pillar of the Community United States 721 Posts	Posted 12/03/2020 7:08 pm I'd this doubling or DDO? It's on the date, and Liberty. North and west sides.I put two together to compare. The bottom coin would be the so called error. Starting to learn a tad. Report this Post to the Staff

It is caused by mechanical means and not a part of the engraving on the die. MD is caused by the the press itself. One of the dies is loose, and when the strike is made, the die "bounces"and some of the metal on the devices can be "plowed" to make a flat and shelflike "doubled" area.
