I came across several listings on ebay for 1972 DDO possibly 2 according to the seller. I have noticed over the last month or so about a dozen or more being sold by the same seller. They have sold for between $20-$60. I found out by checking the feedback that buyer have left the seller. I know the 1972 DDO die 1 is very expensive in BU condition, what is the value in AU/BU condition of these other die varieties?

Thanks,

Tom

My list shows a 72ddo(date dub)$250-$500 in AU condition. Most likely tho his are machine doubled or just a poor mans DDO (dubbing only on the 2 of the date) and worth only $5-$6 Ya seems kinda strange a fellow would have a roll of em.

There are more 1972 DDO's other than the big one. The minor ones are worth less. Look on coppercoins.com and search for the 1972's.

Well you have to remember that there are atleast, If not MORE THEN, 11 DDO for that year alone just on coppercoins with only 1 being the rare expensive one so maybe these are them. Check it out

Im sure on CONECA there is possibly more.

Most of the varieties except for the Big #1, and the variety #4, can be found in EF/AU for $10-$20. I would recommend The #2 or #8 for nice doubling at inexpensive price for a collection. If it wasn't for #1 wide spread, I feel that the #2 would be selling for a high price. If you find a listing of interest, post the url.

I counted 24 of these 1972 DDO sold in the last 3 months and his current listing is for 5 more. I believe it's die number 2. I just wasn't sure of the value. Please look his current listings and maybe the recent ones in the last 3 months. He posted pictures which show doubling in LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.

I like how these guys always say it's "possibly" this or that, when doing a little work they could give a definitive die #.
Of course, they hope someone will think it's the more valuable variety.

Well you can see from his past sales of this coin, people are paying 2-5 times what the coins are worth. I appreciate all of your inputs.
Thanks,

Tom

At least he does say it is not #1, which as you say, most do not. I might go with BU, but not Gem BU. AT least you have several shots at winning. And a price of under $10 would give you a nice DDO. If you don't have a real doubled die, it allows you to see the difference between a DD and Machine Doubling damage. So it is education costs

On that note of costs, I wonder how much the prices in the Upcoming new edition of Cherry Pickers Guide will increase. I find that 2X or 3X for some of the varieties listed in the 4th, are fairly common today.

Jim,
Yeah...reminds me of my 1870 IHC S-8, which in my CPG only lists 1 coin found.
I found #10, and it's already up to a dozen I hear. Alas, lol.
