Well, 2021 is half over already, but here are my remaining goals for the year.

1) Complete a 144-piece PCGS/NGC silver classic commemorative set. I have only 2 left to get ('35-S Arkansas and '52-D Washington-Carver, both in MS66 or MS66+) which are fairly easy to find, but I've had trouble finding the "right" ones. Then, start upgrading the 8 or 10 I bought early on which are graded below MS64.

2) Acquire the 1795 lettered edge Half Cent and 1795 lettered edge large cent to complete a basic 8-piece 1795 date set (non-gold), as part of my overall type collection. Again, finding an attractive example of each in the grade range I want has been the limiting factor.

3) Make more progress on my US and CSA currency type collection. This one is easy as I only started collecting currency two years ago!

Status Update as of 6/30/2021

Quote:

My 2021 goals are actually simple.

1) I want to do a slabbed 7070 (no gold collection)
2) complete the slabbed IHC collection

For the 7070, I am now at 13 coins missing. These are the more expensive, so I don't know if I'll be able to complete the set in 2021.

For the IHC/Flying Eagle I only picked up the 1859 IHC that worked for both sets. I sadly neglected the IHC, but once the 7070 is done, I'll try to get back.

I also have 1 fractionals currency that I am missing and 2 large notes, so after the 7070 I may come back to the notes.

Half the year has flown by!

My Q2 H1 Update:

1. Fill the last six core Dansco album holes (7000-3, 7070-1, 8100-2)
2. Finish the extended part of the PCGS Ike set (2013-P Proof, 2015 P/D/S-PR/P-RP) - 2013-P Proof purchased in March! (was on Q1 report).
3. Buy whatever appeals to me from 2021 US Mint offerings. One Morgan dollar pre-order

Nothing tangible for Q2.

Before you know it, it's Christmas!

My update:

1) Completed my Gulden Type Set, http://goccf.com/t/391402
2) Working on acquiring proof dimes for my 20th and 21st Century Type Set. When that is done, the set is complete.
3) Still looking for a French 20 Franc Charles X gold coin in high AU condition. Seems very expensive though.
4) Started a proof silver ATB set with five 2010 quarters. Plan to buy five 2011 quarters this month.

Six-month update...
(Three-month situation in brown. Most of the difference was actually done in April and/or early May.)

1) Get some more missing dates for my OFEY
1a) In particular, fill in the remaining post-1750 holes (2021, 1844, 1823, 1817, 1795, 1783, 1781, 1780 [aside from the MTT], 1778, 1769, 1766, 1756, 1755, 1752) Added 2021, 1817, apparently no others yet? Now added 1823, 1783, 1780, 1778, 1769, 1766, and possibly 1752. That pesky 1844 continues to evade me - now apparently my only missing post-1800 date.
1b) If possible, get an unbroken line even further back Haha nope... but did add some pre-1750 dates too Same.
1c) Regardless of any actual progress, take photos of all of those coins for posting on CCF (haha good luck) Ditto, and since then I found out that my smartphone is running out of photo storage memory Storage memory issue temporarily fixed, situation otherwise unchanged.

2) Related to the above: get some dated Islamic coins from the 15th century AD No new ones in 2021 yet Same
2a) Non-Islamic dated (and/or single-year-type) coins from the 15th century AD would be welcome, but unlikely to fit within my budget None, as expected Yeah
2b) Dated coins from before the 15th century are useful as well, though I already have a bunch of those Only ancients so far Same, I think

3) Get to 400 issuers on Numista (currently 377)... if that's still a thing by the time I get there 386, though I probably got a few of them via the ongoing German notgeld reorganization 392, but there's been some mergers
3a) If possible, also get to 250 countries (currently 239) 240 Still 240, but IIRC there's been some mergers.

4) Fill some of the remaining holes in my Dansco 7070 album yes, though some of the coins aren't in the album yet, IIRC ditto
4a) In particular, get at least one classic commemorative, and at least one Seated Liberty silver yes for both ditto again

5) Get at least one more coin for my Romanian type set attempt nope two or three from the 1930s that I thought I already had
5a) If I can find some Mongolian coins I didn't have yet, that would be cool as well yup, 5 mongo 1925 15 mongo 1937

6) Formalize my USSR non-commemorative type set progress, figure out what (if anything) I'm still missing, and get it (...discounting the gold, which is out of my budget, and probably never circulated anyway) Project for later, I guess Yeah

7) Formalize my Russian Empire AE type set, and fill at least some of the holes See above No change, I think

8) If my interest in those coins doesn't stop, formalize my 18th/19th century Swedish AE type set attempt, and fill at least some of the holes Hahahaha... though now that I've been reminded, I agree that it would be an interesting project Seconded

1. Get the rest of the Canadian and US 2020 coins I need and look for 2021 coins once they are out.

I have all Canadian 2020 circulating coins. Now onto 2021. Still need some US.

Quote:
2. Work on getting more Canadian Victorian silver.

I picked up a handful from a couple of dealers. I bought sight unseen. I obviously prefer to see what I'm buying prior, but it's been hard this year. I'm holding off on more until shows start back up.

Quote:
3. Continue to build out my Morgan dollar collection, focusing on higher grade nicely toned New Orleans mint issues.

I picked up three from a follow coin club member. Not slabbed, but all MS tonners.

Quote:
4. Expand my banknote collection into US $1 notes.

No progress here yet. This will be a focus at next January's FUN show.

Quote:
5. Continue to stoke my older daughter's and nephew's interest in coins.

Some success, but we'll see. Really looking forward to shows opening up again around here so I can take them to the ones that have a kids table.

Quote:
6. Finally, maybe not a 2021 goal but add a Canada 1948 silver dollar and US 1909-S VDB cent.

Not really a priority.

Is everybody snoozing?

Third quarter update (in red) on those goals:

1.Add any early dated coins (for me 1474-1506) I can find that fit my existing themes. I am missing 1483, 1486-88, 1491,1497,1506 most of which will be difficult, or may never get filled (except 1506 where there is a clear target). 1Q: I nabbed a 1506 even though it's not the one I wanted, and an undated but attributable 1471...by accident. 2Q: Haven't gotten any more early dated coins, but recently got a Kingdom of Poland coin that can be attributed to 1403. 3Q: I got a dated 1497!, and a few earlier coins that can be attributed within a calendar year (1443, 1463, 1450).
2. Fill the missing 17th century dates in my Kingdom of Poland OFEY (1656, 1657, 1659, 1679) two of these preferably with larger silver (1/4 thaler)from Torun and Gdansk mints. 1Q: Have acquired the 1656, 1659 and 1679, and been skunked twice already on 1657. However, I've been able add some missing dates in the 18th c., mostly 1765-95. 2Q: No progress on the 1657 but have landed a few more in 18th c (1769, 1772, 1785, 1786). 3Q: Finally got a nice 1657!
3. Fill a handful of other gaps in the 1600s (1639, 1641, 1642, 1692, 1695) with coins that fit my other themes. (Edit: I just took care of 1642) ...and 1692. 2Q: Just nabbed a 1639 today! 3Q: And the 1641.

Totally forget, not many updates..

2) complete the slabbed IHC collection

The slabbed 7070 is down to 5 coins (plus 1 at PCGS getting graded)
I did get 2 more IHC, but its not being actively worked on while I work on the 7070.

My biggest issue this year is that coins that I could have purchased much cheaper earlier in the year are now double the price and the ones I'm seeing I'm just not really liking the look so I've been passing a lot of coins that I could have purchased.

While not a goal, I recently found a BU 50 centavos and the 2 coins I was missing from the Vasco da Gama series so I picked those up. The foreign coins haven't really jumped in price as much as US coins. I also got my first 2 fractional notes from Portugal.

The US Mint hasn't helped in my collecting goals as they released the 2 coin reverse proof and the Morgans and Peace which I have ordered and not yet paid so that also stopped the 7070 collecting.

What I have planned for the rest of the year:

1) get at least 2 more coins for the 7070
2) sell off the extra Morgan and Peace dollars
3) get maybe 1 more IHC

My 2022 goals are starting to be put together, but they are like the 2021 which is complete the 7070, start working on IHC and finally complete the Whitman folder of wheat cents that I started as a kid, it's only missing 1 coin, I think you know what it is. Yes I know I already have a complete set of wheats in a Dansco but this is my first folder and it needs to be completed (looking for a slabbed S-VDB)

But like I was told many times, this isn't a race.

Nine-month update...
(New additions in red, six-month status in brown, three-month status in maroon.)

TL/DR: I seem to have barely bought any coins over those three months.

I hadn't bought a lot in those three months, though, and I'm falling behind on Numista updates.
1b) If possible, get an unbroken line even further back Haha nope... but did add some pre-1750 dates too Same. Good luck.
1c) Regardless of any actual progress, take photos of all of those coins for posting on CCF (haha good luck) Ditto, and since then I found out that my smartphone is running out of photo storage memory Storage memory issue temporarily fixed, situation otherwise unchanged. Storage memory issues showing up again. Not sure what to do with it yet.

2a) Non-Islamic dated (and/or single-year-type) coins from the 15th century AD would be welcome, but unlikely to fit within my budget None, as expected Yeah Same

3a) If possible, also get to 250 countries (currently 239) 240 Still 240, but IIRC there's been some mergers Still 240, but I'm feeling hopeful

4) Fill some of the remaining holes in my Dansco 7070 album yes, though some of the coins aren't in the album yet, IIRC ditto no new ones, I think, but one possible upgrade
4a) In particular, get at least one classic commemorative, and at least one Seated Liberty silver yes for both ditto again not since June, I think

5) Get at least one more coin for my Romanian type set attempt nope two or three from the 1930s that I thought I already had not that I recall, but I'll have to check
5a) If I can find some Mongolian coins I didn't have yet, that would be cool as well yup, 5 mongo 1925 15 mongo 1937 None since June, I think, but not sure

6) Formalize my USSR non-commemorative type set progress, figure out what (if anything) I'm still missing, and get it (...discounting the gold, which is out of my budget, and probably never circulated anyway) Project for later, I guess Yeah Same

Started a proof silver ATB set with five 2010 quarters. Plan to buy five 2011 quarters this month.

ATB set on hold. Started with a new proof silver Statehood set instead. Will finished that one first, then continue with the ATB set.

• Planning to start collecting Dutch Provincial silver ducats from the 18th Century. Perhaps make a Type Set out of it.

@j1m, I saw that and was wondering if that's updating your collection in Numista, or updating the catalog? I've been getting more active over there the last couple of months. Wasn't on my goals at the beginning of the year.

The former, alas: entering my purchases (particularly of banknotes) into my Numista collection. I've never done much catalog work there, and now that the new format guidelines are in force I doubt I'll ever add anything there again unless it's something really important; it's just too complicated.
