PCGS - If you're like me, you probably have a handful of New Year's resolutions you're hoping to check off this new year. Lose 15 pounds, take that cross-country road trip, eat less, and exercise more. And when the ball drops over New York City's Times Square and a rousing ramble of "Auld Lang Syne" has been sung, we often dive right into checking off some of those New Year's resolution.

5-New-Year's-Resolutions-For-Coin-Collectors
There are so many wonderful numismatic New Year's resolutions we can take up over the next calendar year

Hey, why else do new gym membership numbers skyrocket those first days of January? Yes, so many folks really do mean well when it comes to synthesizing their resolutions into action.

The problem for so many of us is that we have often given up on all our New Year's resolutions by February or March, and back to the same ol', same ol' (lang syne?) we go. But it doesn't have to be that way. At least not for coin collectors! Here are five approachable, exciting, and rewarding numismatic New Year's resolutions that you can really get excited about tackling over the next months.

#1 - Collect a New Series
Many, if not most, collectors have one or two series they specialize in - forever. And that's totally normal. I've always had a special place in my heart for Lincoln Cents and probably always will. I know a few collectors who are die-hard Morgan dollar aficionados and at least one or two folks who I peg as error-coin lifers. But it can be refreshing to embark on a new series, too. That may be just exactly what jump starts your coin collecting adventures in the new year and may even take you down an exciting path you'll wonder why you hadn't explored sooner.

1) Very likely; that is to say, I've never been limited to any particular series, but the sheer relative glut of money I'm about to have in 2022 (on the account of now earning as much as $400 per month) would probably allow me to collect several sets that I had previously barely started.
(Those would almost certainly be type sets, of course; I never understood the people who focus on one specific type and collect it by date/mint.)

2) Oh, sure, lots, but my situation is closer to Slerk's, so I doubt I'd even get as much as a hundred dollars for it. If I end up having to do any shipping I'll probably end up with less money than I started with.

3) Um, no offence, but what the triangular heck is a trade list? Otherwise, though, I agree - there are probably some upgrades in my future.

4) Same comment as 1 except stronger - this implies that I already have a well-defined niche, and that it's defined in some way that allows adding a new area to it. Literally the only interpretations I can think of offhand are "branch out into varieties" and "branch out into errors", neither of which interest me much because 1) I'm not collecting that narrowly in the first place and 2) I don't have that kind of money.

5) ...wait is it actually free? Hold on, I should check what brand my slab is... yup, PCGS. Maybe I should try entering it to compete with other collectors of Rutherford Hayes dollars.
