My 2021 Wrap-Up: 1. Finish Ike PCGS slabbed set - Didn't finish but knocked out four, adding three "core" and one "extended". This leaves 5 core and 2 extended, which I hope to be able to complete in '22.2. Continue with my world paper money collection by adding at least 100 notes - Met this goal with about 120 world notes added. 3. If silver stays under 30 and the premiums decrease to closer to a dollar, resume monthly silver stacking - premiums are still pretty silly. No silver stacked in '21.4. Add 5 older ASEs to the holes in my collection - no progress here. Too many current ASEs, Morgans, and Peace dollars to contend with this year.Other than a few US Mint offerings, I think that's about as aggressive as I want to be this year. - "A few" -- HA! Good heavens they almost broke me this year (see #4 above).

@princetane, that sounds like a great year, and yes, "scope creep" is something I am always confronted with too. When I induge it, the remorse ends as soon as the coin arrives in the mail. Rather than keep my quarterly updates, I'll just give a year end summary, adding that December was a bountiful month, so some of these are not yet in hand 1. Add any early dated coins (for me 1474-1506) I can find that fit my existing themes. I am missing 1483, 1486-88, 1491,1497,1506 most of which will be difficult, or may never get filled (except 1506 where there is a clear target). I was able to get dated 1506 (Pomerania) and 1497 (Brabant). But I also added a lot of undated medieval coins attributable to single years that fit with my existing collecting themes: 1472, 1471, 1463, 1450, 1443, 1440, 1427, 1403, 1376, 1373, 1363, 1337. 2. Fill the missing 17th century dates in my Kingdom of Poland OFEY (1656, 1657, 1659, 1679) two of these preferably with larger silver (1/4 thaler)from Torun and Gdansk mints. Done, though I decided to forego coins from those mints that have continued to escalate in price. 3. Fill a handful of other gaps in the 1600s (1639, 1641, 1642, 1692, 1695) with coins that fit my other themes. (Edit: I just took care of 1642). Nearly done. Only 1695 remains for 2022.

1. Get the rest of the Canadian and US 2020 coins I need and look for 2021 coins once they are out. I have (almost) all Canadian 2020 & 2021 circulating coins. Still need some US.2. Work on getting more Canadian Victorian silver. This was a focus this year and I whittled away at my list.3. Continue to build out my Morgan dollar collection, focusing on higher grade nicely toned New Orleans mint issues. I picked up three from a follow coin club member. Not slabbed, but all MS tonners. Morgan prices in general have gone way up. Hope to get to a show in the US at some point to avoid paying shipping.4. Expand my banknote collection into US $1 notes. No progress here yet. Was scheduled to go to January's FUN show, but canceled the trip.5. Continue to stoke my older daughter's and nephew's interest in coins. Went to one show with my daughter. Neither of us bought anything. Most of the stuff was above both of our budgets. Looking forward to shows with a kids table and/or kids auction.6. Finally, maybe not a 2021 goal but add a Canada 1948 silver dollar and US 1909-S VDB cent. Not really a priority.

I don't think I'm going to add any more coins. So how was 2021. All in a all a good year. I added 7 IHC to my IHC/FE collection. I got up to 76 of the 80 coins needed for the 7070. Counting I picked up about 40 coins in 2021. I have 40 of the 42 coins needed for the 20th century type set, although 34 were already part of the 7070. I picked up about 15 notes with the majority being a run of 9 star $2 notes. I was able to pick up ~ 20 coins from Portugal And I upgraded 14 wheat cents. I also got the Morgan and Peace set, and sold off all the duplicates at a small profit. And got the 2021 Reverse Proof ASE Set from the mint. The vast majority of my hobby budget went to the 7070, followed by IHC. With the others I picked up when I saw something locally.

Have any of you thought maybe your favourite dealers read this list and then work out what to offer you for sale. I state I want to get a shilling of Edward VI and voila one comes up for sale, then a VF coin of William IV and voila there they all are.
Anyone else had this coincidence of dream coins just emanating like that?

I spoke too soon. Had a couple of last-minute purchases over an egg nog or two the other night and have a 78D and 77D on the way, both MS65. Would like to have held out for 66, but these were relatively inexpensive so now I can bide my time for upgrades. That leaves 3 core and 2 extended.

Another year in the books! Time for a review: Quote:1. Fill one hole in each of my Barber dime and Washington quarter sets Added two Barber dimes and one Washington quarter. Quote:2. Fill the final hole in my ATB clad proof sets, fill one hole in my ATB silver proof sets, and pick up the last six S-mint ATB Quarters Picked up the last clad proof set I needed, along with one silver proof set and the final S-mint quarters. Quote: 3. Fill one hole in my Mint Sets Added 4 Mint Sets, plus the 2021. Quote:4. Buy or trade for 2-5 modern US coins on my Want List Added 6 coins. Quote: 5. Avoid impulse buys, i.e. anything that is not on my set lists, and do not start any new sets or expand existing sets I was good this year and avoided impulse buys, but I laid the groundwork for starting a date set of Seated Liberty half dimes (through research). Since I haven't bought anything yet, I'd say this goal was successful. Quote: 6. Swap out coins in old holders, finish grading coins, soak coins from old mint sets in acetone, create new binders, and update old photos I finished grading my coins and made some progress in swapping out old 2x2s, but I haven't even started the other tasks... But there's always next year! With 5/6 goals completed and/or exceeded, I'm calling this a successful year. Here's to 2022!

Almost no purchases in the last three months of 2021, and most of the purchases that did happen almost entirely consisted of banknotes and/or ancient coins... (Three-month status in purple, six-month status in maroon, nine-month status in brown, current status in red.) 1) Get some more missing dates for my OFEY 1a) In particular, fill in the remaining post-1750 holes (2021, 1844, 1823, 1817, 1795, 1783, 1781, 1780 [aside from the MTT], 1778, 1769, 1766, 1756, 1755, 1752) Added 2021, 1817, apparently no others yet?Now added 1823, 1783, 1780, 1778, 1769, 1766, and possibly 1752. That pesky 1844 continues to evade me - now apparently my only missing post-1800 date.AFAIK no addition. I hadn't bought a lot in those three months, though, and I'm falling behind on Numista updates.Added 1795, none of the others that I could see. Also added some 1740s dates. Still no 1844.1b) If possible, get an unbroken line even further back Haha nope... but did add some pre-1750 dates tooSame.Good luck.Something to hope for in 2022, I guess.1c) Regardless of any actual progress, take photos of all of those coins for posting on CCF (haha good luck) Ditto, and since then I found out that my smartphone is running out of photo storage memoryStorage memory issue temporarily fixed, situation otherwise unchanged.Storage memory issues showing up again. Not sure what to do with it yet.Now back to fixed, but I tend to take pics of my ancients first.2) Related to the above: get some dated Islamic coins from the 15th century AD No new ones in 2021 yetSameDittoNo change so far2a) Non-Islamic dated (and/or single-year-type) coins from the 15th century AD would be welcome, but unlikely to fit within my budget None, as expectedYeahSameDitto2b) Dated coins from before the 15th century are useful as well, though I already have a bunch of those Only ancients so farSame, I thinkNo changeOne of the recent additions turned out to have a date in late 14th century3) Get to 400 issuers on Numista (currently 377)... if that's still a thing by the time I get there 386, though I probably got a few of them via the ongoing German notgeld reorganization392, but there's been some mergersStill 392, mostly due to lack of new additions393; I added more than one, but the ongoing mergers almost entirely counteracted that3a) If possible, also get to 250 countries (currently 239) 240Still 240, but IIRC there's been some mergersStill 240, but I'm feeling hopefulStill 2404) Fill some of the remaining holes in my Dansco 7070 album yes, though some of the coins aren't in the album yet, IIRCdittono new ones, I think, but one possible upgradeno US coins bought in the last three months4a) In particular, get at least one classic commemorative, and at least one Seated Liberty silver yes for bothditto againnot since June, I thinkno US coins bought in the last three months5) Get at least one more coin for my Romanian type set attempt nopetwo or three from the 1930s that I thought I already hadnot that I recall, but I'll have to check2 bani 18675a) If I can find some Mongolian coins I didn't have yet, that would be cool as well yup, 5 mongo 192515 mongo 1937None since June, I think, but not sureNo Mongolian coins bought in the last three months6) Formalize my USSR non-commemorative type set progress, figure out what (if anything) I'm still missing, and get it (...discounting the gold, which is out of my budget, and probably never circulated anyway) Project for later, I guessYeahSameSuccessfully foisted off to 20227) Formalize my Russian Empire AE type set, and fill at least some of the holes See aboveNo change, I thinkSameDitto8) If my interest in those coins doesn't stop, formalize my 18th/19th century Swedish AE type set attempt, and fill at least some of the holes Hahahaha... though now that I've been reminded, I agree that it would be an interesting projectSecondedThirdedFourthed
