Just curious if NGC ever released a population report for the silver and saltwater damaged coins from the SS New York wreck. My searches are only pulling up an article that links to a list of gold coins. It says that a list of the silver would come later (12 years ago). Did it ever happen?

I recently picked up a 1782 Peru Real (NGC slabbed SS New York) and wanted to see how unique it might have been among the haul. First TPG 1782 from a wreck other than the El Cazador I've maybe ever seen, so I grabbed it.

I'm not aware of a coin recovery from the wreck of the SS New York. Which one, the one that sank in Scotland in 1858 or the one that went down in 1891? (And why would a 1782 Peru Real be on board?)

The SS New York was a cargo and passenger ship that operated in the Gulf of Mexico between New Orleans and Galveston. It sank during a hurricane in Sept 1845. At the time, it was carrying $30-40K in gold and silver coins, including pieces issued by the Southern Mints of New Orleans, Charlotte, NC and Dahlonega, GA. Several foreign coins were also hauled up from the wreck.

Here is NGC's press release and a download listing gold coins. It says a report in the silver and other stuff would be coming, but I can't say I'm finding that ever happened.

Honestly, easiest thing to do would be call and ask. They have the data. The ANA has its own version of an FOIA for the TPGs, just call and they'll tell you if they know.
