Hello dear coin community, I found this coin/pendant at the bottom of a jar with screws in my attic. I am in the Netherlands, city of Eindhoven at the south border with Belgium. I am rebuilding my attic with my father at the moment and we need all possible screws :) But what excactly have I found? I cleaned it and with google lens I found its a swiss 5 rappen/cemes coin. I only found results for the side with the "5" on it. The other side with the womans face, has no date, and the letters make no clear sense to me. It has been made into a pendant, maybe some anniversary. Anyways, I am never busy with coins! But I have started wondering! Really hope someone will be able to help. Thanks in advance! Martine, from Eindhoven a capital in the south of the Netherlands.

It isn't a real coin. Switzerland has a different bust than that one.

Certainly not a coin. It looks like a swiss coin but the inscription: CONE EDERATIFE LELVEIIOARDTNNO does not make sense. The inscription on swiss coins is CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA (swiss confederation). It was clearly made, with the loop, as a pendant. Maybe for a key chain. I assume it is much larger than a 5 Rappen coin which has a diameter of 17,2 mm.

thank you coin dude! I think you are right, doesn't seem like a real coin. I also noticed that the bottom part of the 5 cent side, should have been looking much more like a real bow. It's a sloppy mold. mmmm but it keeps me wondering.. why copy an image from a swiss coin, and combining it with a non-swiss head... etc.. Maybe someone somewhere has a clue

Hi Eligius, Thanks, yes indeed that inscription puzzles me too! The pendant has a 15mm diameter.

No logical reason is necessary. People use coins as raw material and inspiration for everything under the sun. Quite possible the maker liked the design of the Swiss 5 rappen coin and thought that it would be nice for a pendant/ key chain, and did not want to be accused of forgery. So thus you have a design similar to but not identical to the swiss coin.
